McCarthy, Mike
 Welcome to Social Studies! Mr. McCarthy has been teaching at Saint Joe since 2006. He is an alum of Saint Joe and the University of Notre Dame (BA, History 2003, BA, Secondary Education 2003). Prior to arriving at Saint Joe, he spent four years teaching Social Studies and Special Education at South Bend Clay High School. He greatly enjoys the challenge of teaching both Honors World History and Geography at Saint Joe.

 Mr. McCarthy received the Thomas A. Gerencher Excellence in Teaching Award for the 2010-2011 academic year.  He was the Light of Learning recipient for the 2011-2012 academic year. He received the Saint Joseph High School Community Award in November 2018 and the Glenn Rousey Service Award in June 2019. 

 He currently serves as Department Chairperson. Additionally, he is the Head Boys' and Girls' Track & Field and Cross Country coach. He helped lead the track teams to ten city championships, six sectional titles, the 2011 Girls Indoor State Championship, and been nominated by the IATCCC for state high school coach of the year award eight times.

 Away from school he enjoys reading nonfiction, travel, attending lectures and museums, training for road races, high school and college sports, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, all things Notre Dame, and obsessively following track & field at all levels.
